A number of years working as a graphic designer for high-profile clients at small, creative design studios in London gave me the experience and desire to start an independent graphic design studio in 2002. 1977 Design was founded to be an ideas-led, graphic design studio whose key purpose is to work closely with clients in order to use design to communicate a message / idea more successfully.
Throughout the years of running a successful design studio I have worked with some amazing clients and have built relationships with some great creatives, copywriters, illustrators, photographers, web developers and more besides. As the studio has become larger I have become very experienced in understanding clients requirements and then building a creative team who can create, and then deliver, a successful design solution.
My particular interests in design lie within the personal responses created by an effective piece of graphic design. Whether it be a brand environment or a website the end goal of a piece of design work is not the actual work created but is the reaction that work creates. To me design is about delivering a message through design, and this is something which is all too easily forgotten sometimes.

Due to an interest in the wider area of branding for a number of years I am now also studying part time for my MA in Brand Communication & Culture at Goldsmiths University. The course gives the knowledge required to work with, and to help develop, brands in a wider sense – beyond the visual. After many years of reading on the subject I felt that it was time to get more expert training, and qualification, and so far so good.
Interests of mine include:
social impact of design and propaganda
branding
street art
the social web
collaborative working methods
co-creation of value(s) in brands
hobo symbols
world cinema
football
